The New Testament Was Written Within Decades Of Jesus’ Death

How do we know whether the books in the New Testament represent the truth about Jesus?  Why are these books in the Bible and while others are not? In this 7 minute video from Living Stones Churches, we see:

  1. All the New Testament books were written by one of Jesus’ Apostles or under the guidance of an Apostle
  2. They were all written within several decades of Jesus’ death
    • Witnesses were still alive during this time who could easily have refuted them if they weren’t true and accurate
  3. The books in the Bible were affirmed because they were used in early Christian churches started by the Apostles – not by men meeting in smoke-filled rooms
  4. The Bible we have today is based on 5686 manuscripts that are 95.5% consistent with each other
  5. Translations are the result of extensive collaboration across many scholars
  6. Even skeptical, atheist scholars attest to the historical veracity of the Bible

The Right Books

The Old Testament Was Similarly Established By Early Judiasm

The majority of the Old Testament was established within Judiasm before 200 BC.  All Bibles include this aligned set of books.  Some churches also incorporate in their Bibles additional books written by Jewish leaders after 200 BC.  This additional set of books, called the Apocrypha, is not typically included in Protestant Bibles because those Bibles are based on the Greek language version of the Old Testament established before the Apocrypha was written.  The Greek version of the Old Testament is also the one used by Jesus and all other Jews prior to and during Jesus’ time in the 1st century AD.  This is explained further in this 4 minute video from the Museum of the Bible.

Embarrassing Accounts Validate The New Testament As Presenting The Truth

The New Testament contains many embarrassing accounts associated with the life, ministry and death of Jesus Christ.  The sheer number of them can be seen dispelling any notion that the New Testament is filled with myths and legends.  This is because myths and legends typically present the main character and his associates in a heroic manner.  Why include so many frank, honest and embarrassing stories in the New Testament if the intent were to exaggerate the divinity or legend of Jesus?  Watch this 9 1/2 minute video from Frank Turek at Cross Examined. It is both concise and entertaining.
